Cricket: Gentleman's game

Introduction:

Cricket is a game  played between two teams each of eleven players in a center of field. At the center there is a rectangular box of 22 yards called pitch. One team does batting and the other does fielding. The batting team tries to score as many runs as they can and the fielding team tries to prevent the runs. Each phase of the game is known as innings. The team which scores greater number of runs is declared as the winner.

Game is started with two umpires , 11 fielders and 2 batsmen entering the field. The bowler delivers the bowl  from one end of the pitch and one of the batsman strikes the bowl from the other end. Another batsman is called non striker who stands near the bowlers end .The bowler targets the stump which is at 22 yard distance from him at the role of batsman is to protect the bowl from hitting the stump and score runs. If the batsman fails to protect the bowl from hitting the stump then the batsman has to leave the field and next batsman comes to the crease. Bowlers job is to bowl at good line and length to the batsman, take the maximum number of wicket and prevent the batsman from scoring runs. A bowler can bowl 1 over at a time i.e. 6 deliveries(balls). After completion of an over next bowler comes to bowl . One bowler cannot bowl two overs simulataneously .

History Of Cricket

The  cricket was originated in england , probably after the Roman Empire It is said  that the game derived from a very old, widespread and uncomplicated pastime by which one player served up an object, be it a small piece of wood or a ball, and another hit it with a suitably fashioned club. The first recorded cricket match took place in Kent in 1646, and by the late 1600s. Cricket was popular and widely documented in England during the 1700s. The game was developed hugely on 18th century.  Bowling was developed in this century as bowlers started pitching the bowl instead of rolling the bowls. The development in bowling caused the development in bat designs also. The cricket bats started to be straight because using straight bats  instead of hockey sticks it would be easier to hit a bouncing ball. Similarly in 19th century underarms bowling and round arm action bowling was suspended and first international match was played between United States and Canada.
